26th and 27th June 2024 at the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut e. V., Bonn
Sustainability continues to be one of the most important topics in the fresh produce sector. The growing challenges make reliable information and constructive dialog more important than ever. Given the positive response to the first event in 2023, the second European Sustainability Forum will therefore take place on 27th June 2024. The evening before, Wednesday, June 26, we invite you to a get-together, where you can meet and eat with known and new contacts.
Kongress / Forum-Inhalt:
Agenda | Thursday, 27 June 2024 |
09:00 am | Welcome by the organisers |
| • Kaasten Reh, Fruchthandel Magazin |
09:05 am | Sustainability – ambition and reality |
| The food retail trade is known to be the interface to the consumer and therefore the final link in a long supply chain. What do retailers expect from their suppliers? What can it achieve itself? What do consumers want? |
09:30 am | Climate targets! Why? |
Many large retail chains have set themselves ambitious climate targets and are reorganising some of their supply chains to achieve them. It is important to set clear targets along the value chain and have them validated externally. As an international portfolio manager in the fresh produce sector, BayWa Global Produce was one of the first companies to commit to ambitious climate targets, both publicly and vis-à-vis the SBTi.
10:00 am | Production – what can be done? |
| If you want to sell a sustainable product, do you also have to produce it sustainably? Where does sustainability start? What options are there? Which factors and parameters are important? |
10:30 - 11:00 am | Coffee Break • Networking • Marketplace |
11:00 am | Water – foundation of our production used intelligently and efficiently |
| This is how it works - the intelligent and efficient handling and use of this unique and existential resource. Water is the fundamental basis for sustainable production - also in Europe. An example of intelligent use. |
11:30 am | Using water efficiently and in an environmentally responsible way |
Future-orientated and intelligent solutions are required. The example of QS-FIN is used to explain how water use can be adapted to climate change and how the environment can be protected through sustainable water management • Wilfried Kamphausen, QS Fachgesellschaft Obst-Gemüse-Kartoffeln GmbH
12:00 am | Water – efficient and sustainable use in production |
Different regions of Europe face challenges of varying intensity. To ensure a secure supply for European consumers, production must be guaranteed, as must the supply of this life-giving element to nature and consumers. A practical view. • Rudolf Behr, Behr AG
12:30 am - 02:00 pm | Lunch • Networking • Marketplace |
02:00 pm | No Green Deal without horticulture? Our contribution |
Greener, healthier and happier together. That is our vision for the future of Europe. With our ambition for climate neutrality in 2040 and zero emissions of nutrients and pesticides in 2027, greenhouse horticulture wants to make a sustainable contribution to feeding, greening and improving the health of Europe. No Green Deal without us. How do we use this potential? • Jesse Schevel, Glastuibouw Nederland
02:30 pm | Sustainability reporting – who is affected? |
| With the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the European Commission has created a legal framework for future sustainability reporting. Small and medium-sized companies are also likely to be confronted with this topic sooner than expected due to increasing demands from banks and customers. |
03:00 - 03:30 pm | Coffee break • Networking • Marketplace |
03:30 pm | Packaging amendment 2022 – what does it mean for the industry? |
| As part of the so-called "European Green Deal", the EU Commission presented a draft EU packaging regulation on November 30, 2022, which aims to further counteract environmental pollution caused by packaging waste. Three main objectives are to be achieved: Prevention of packaging waste, promotion of recycling and the promotion of a market for secondary raw materials. What does this mean for the fruit and vegetable trade? |
03:50 pm | Recycling: endless cycle? How organic can plastic be? |
| Films and plastics are used in many ways in fruit and vegetable cultivation to increase harvest yields and ensure quality. Used films at the side of the field or the remains of drip hoses do not leave a good impression. It is therefore important to return as many of these plastics as possible to the material cycle. Where is this already working well and what are the goals for the coming years? |
04:10 pm | Designing sustainable logistics and transportation |
| • André Jobmann, A Head of FMCG / Reefer, North Europe Continent, A.P.-Moller-Maersk A/S, angefragt |
04:30 pm | What do we take with us to the future? |
| Closing of the event |
